SocioCirles organiseert regelmatig informatieve talks voor expats om de Nederlandse maatschappij beter te leren kennen en te navigeren. En gezelligheid om elkaar beter te leren kennen.

Wat hebben de huidige Nederlandse koning, een Nobelprijswinnaar in de natuurkunde (Hendrik Lorentz), een voormalig president van de Nederlandse Bank (Nout Wellink) en de Europese Commissaris voor Klimaat en Groene Groei (Wopke Hoekstra) met elkaar gemeen?

Deze organisaties, vaak al opgericht in de vroege 1800s, spelen een belangrijke rol in het Nederlandse studentenleven, en vaak ook daarbuiten. Tijdens onze sessie bekijken we hun geschiedenis, tradities, rol in het studentenleven, hun inzet tijdens de Duitse bezetting, en enkele oudere en recentere schandalen. Natuurlijk bespreken we ook hoe dit netwerk wel of niet invloed heeft op latere carrières.

Onze spreker was 6 jaar lid van een studentenvereniging en heeft een jaar fulltime in het bestuur gezeten. Sindsdien werkt hij al tien jaar als strategieconsultant.

SocioCircles regularly organizes informative talks for expats to help them better understand and navigate Dutch society. It’s also a great way to enjoy some social time and get to know each other better.

These organizations, often dating back to the early 1800s, play an important role in Dutch student life - and frequently beyond. During our session, we will examine their history, traditions, role in Dutch student life, efforts during the Nazi occupation, and some older and more recent scandals. Of course, we also cover how this network does, or does not, influence later careers.

Our speaker was a member of a student association for 6 years, and spent a full-time year on its board. Since then, he has spent a decade working as a strategy consultant.
