Out of the closet but still in hiding : conflicts and identity issues for a black-white biracial lesbian

V. Bing

The tasks facing women of color and biracial women are many. Living in a race conscious society that was built upon practices of racial and gender oppression affects the physical, emotional and psychological well-being of women of color. When the factor of sexual orientation is added to the mix, the challenges are multiplied. In this paper, through the use of a case study, I examine some of the issues facing the multiply oppressed biracial lesbian population, particularly Black-White biracial women, and I challenge psychotherapists of all races and sexual orientations to examine the foundations utilized when working with this population in clinical practice.[Copies are available from: Haworth Document Delivery Center.
